This week we will focus solely on review of various skills from our current units please see below for a listing of great online websites such as IXL, Think Central, and a new one that I learned about last week called interactivesites.weebly.com at this site students can click on their grade level and the skill that we are currently working on for this unit and find a wide variety of fun games to play while they are reviewing the concepts or skills. 4th Grade Math - Study Resources How can I study? Independent Practice – The student will practice several problems by themselves without any assistance and finally 4. Quiz – the student will test their knowledge with a short quiz. Also, a great website that the students love is called interactivesites.weebly.com which has great fraction related games. Please have your child may review the following lessons from the online resource Think Central Interventions – https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/content/hsp/math/hspmath/na/common/intervention_9780153664021_/start.html L72, L74-L77. To All Students: Please remember, cramming the night before an assessment is not the best way to study! Reviewing the material nightly helps you tremendously. Most importantly, you will be less stressed, and will feel confident on assessment day! 2nd Grade Reading
Our new standard this week will focus on comparing and contrasting two text about the same topic. (See standard below) ELACC2RI9: Compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic. We will be reading the all to familiar story "The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse." Students will be able to discuss what similarities and differences that they noticed about the two mice. Then, take the new knowledge of comparing and contrasting and apply it to a fun class activity where they will be able to compare and contrast various household and everyday items. Students will continue to work on skills such as asking and answering questions, identifying text features and how they help them understand the section that they are reading. Parents please make sure that your child reads for at least 15-20 minutes every night and uses the I-Ready computer reading program at least twice a week. These two steps will help your child improve their overall abilities to read fluently and comprehend what they are reading. 4th Grade Reading The fourth grade students will continue to read the captivating historical fiction book "A Lion to Guard Us" as they learn if Amanda and her siblings will make it to the New World and be reunited with their father. In addition, this week students will be learning about an usual skill that is closely related to inferencing. Students will be focusing on "Allusions" which is a reference made through art, a setting, or person that relates back to something or someone else. We will use Greek Mythology to learn more about this skill. For example, "Achilles Heel" which refers to someone's week point or weakness. Parents please note that your child will be taking their unit 4 reading test beginning next Tuesday, Feb; 9th and it will cover the elements of poetry, drama, and prose, compare and contrasting, as well as the application and understanding of allusions within text. Students will be bringing home their Interactive Notebooks as well as other classwork materials to help them prepare for this test. Well, until next time when you stop by to take a peek into our world!
