Let's take a peek into our world
Hello Parents and Students I hope that each and everyone of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and are now ready to bring the first semester to an end in the next few weeks. Please read below for important pieces of information that you will find handy in the coming weeks.
2nd Grade Math & Reading In second grade math the students are continuing to work with learning the different types of measurement tools as it relates to telling time using an analog clock and a digital clock. This week we will focus more on measuring different objects using a measuring tape and ruler. It is important to ensure that you also have these great tools at home since a few of the homework assignments students will need to be able to measure things found around the house and even have fun discovering their measurements. Please note that we will have a quiz this week that will cover identifying different types of measurement, making estimations, using a ruler to measure objects using inches. Next week Wednesday we will be having a quiz on telling time using a clock. Please look out for your child's math study guide that will be sent home on Friday, Dec. 4th. Our unit test will be on Friday, Dec. 11th. Please take the time to complete the study guide by Wednesday, Dec. 9th, and return it to school on Thursday, Dec. 10 for a quick review prior to the test. 2nd Grade Reading The students have been working on Main idea and supporting details for the last several weeks. We are wrapping up our performance assessment this week and will be doing a cool activity for our formative assessment next week called the Main Idea & Details Chain. Students will be able to choose from a bunch of main ideas related to different themes and then add supporting details that to create their chains. 4th Grade Math This week students will be reviewing for their unit 3 math assessment on Fractions which will be on Friday, Dec. 4th.We will look at equivalent, comparing, and ordering fractions. Please review the study guide with your child every night. All study completed study guides MUST be returned on Monday, Dec. 7th. Parents please ensure that you are checking your child's agendas every night for homework assignments. Most of the assignments are given on Monday and are due on that Friday. Although, homework is mainly sent home to help your child practice the concepts I also collect specific assignments to add as a homework grade. Your child is informed head of time on which assignments will be graded. 4th Grade Reading Please note that we are wrapping up our unit on Main Idea and Key Details along with determining the author's purpose or point of the text. Next week we will be taking a performance assessment beginning on Monday through Thursday. We have also started our next unit which is focusing on Poetry, Drama, and Prose. This is a fun unit in which students will be learning about the various elements of each genre and will be able to read, and create examples of different types of poems and dramas. Students will be taking their favorite Prose or story and creating a creative recount of the story. Stay tuned for more information in the new year. 5th Grade Math In math students have been working with applying the multiplying of decimals to area models this week. Our unit has quickly come to an end and a study guide will be sent home on Monday, Dec. 7th. The unit test will be on Thursday, Dec. 10 & Friday, Dec. 11th. All next week we will be focusing on reviewing the various concepts of this unit in class. Please use the online resources to help your child prepare for the end of unit assessment. A great website that we've been using in our class recently is called Think Central. You may have your child complete the following lessons to help practice the different skills. The website address is simply, think central.com/intervention and the lessons that we've been using in the classroom are L34 and L38. Happy studying!
