2nd Grade Math Hello parents and students! This is a very busy week for us as we begin to close out 2nd nine week grading period. A study guide was sent home last week Thursday that covers the concepts taught in unit 3 on Measurement. Please have your child complete questions on a nightly basis. I am asking that ALL study guides be completed and turned in to me on Friday, Dec. 11th. Our test will take place on Thursday and Friday of this week. in preparation for the test show your child an analog or traditional clock and a digital one so that they can see the differences. Also, have them practice telling time by counting by 5's, quarter after, quarter to the hour, and half-past or 30 minutes after the hour. This week students will continue to learn about a new type of graph that is used to collect data. Students will learn more about Line Plots, which is a type of graph that shows the frequency or how often something occurs along a number line. See video below. 2nd Grade Reading
In reading this week students will be finishing up various assignments and working on creating Main Idea and Supporting Details Chains which is a great way for students choose a topic and create details about that main idea topic using their prior knowledge from what they read or already know about the subject. Also, students will have a final quiz on Main Idea and Key details as it relates to Non-Fiction text on Thursday, Dec.. 10th. Parents please have your child read for at least 20 minutes every night. It will help improve their fluency and overall reading comprehension. 4th Grade Math & Reading This week students will finish their unit 3 math test on Fraction Equivalence and then we will begin our new unit 4 on Friday in which students will continue to work with fraction operations. Students will continue to deepen their understanding of equivalent fractions as they learn more on how to reduce or simplify fractions and use the strategies of finding the LCM (Least Common Multiple) or the GCF (The Greatest Common Factor). Will continue working in this unit right into the 3rd week of January 2016. Our classes new favorite online resource is called Think Central.com/intervention which has lessons aligned to the common core math.
